What You'll Do

We are seeking a highly creative and skilled Softgoods Designer to join our dynamic team. As a Softgoods Designer, you will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and developing softgoods products that align with our brand's vision and market demands. This role requires a strong understanding of textiles, materials, and manufacturing processes, as well as a keen eye for detail and innovation. The ideal candidate will be passionate about creating functional, aesthetically pleasing softgoods that resonate with our target audience.

 

Key responsibilities of this position:

  • Conceptualization and Design: Develop innovative concepts and designs for softgoods products such as apparel, accessories, and home textiles. Translate design ideas into sketches, renderings, and technical drawings.
  • Material Selection: Research and select appropriate materials, fabrics, and trims for each product, considering factors such as quality, performance, cost, and sustainability.
  • Technical Development: Work closely with cross-functional teams including product development, engineering, and manufacturing to ensure that designs are technically feasible and optimized for production.
  • Prototyping and Sampling: Oversee the creation of prototypes and samples, collaborating with suppliers and manufacturers to refine designs and address any issues that arise during the sampling process.
  • Trend Analysis: Stay informed about current fashion trends, consumer preferences, and market developments related to softgoods, and integrate insights into the design process to create products that resonate with our target audience.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough quality inspections of prototypes and samples to ensure that finished products meet design specifications and quality standards.
  • Documentation and Communication: Maintain detailed design documentation including specifications, measurements, and technical drawings. Communicate effectively with internal teams, suppliers, and vendors throughout the design and development process.
  • Maintaining development schedules and budget

  • Increase volumes in SG business

  • Improve margin metrics and product efficiencies.

What We're Looking For

This role requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Product Development, Marketing, Business, or equivalent combination of relevant experience.

 

Other qualifications include: 

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in apparel design
  • Experience working within retail a plus
  • Completed studies (university/technical college) and/or specific professional experience with minimum 2 years in apparel industry
  • Project management and problem-solving experience.
  • Excellent technical, interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Team player attitude
  • Ability to multi-task and work at a fast pace
  • Excellent follow-up
  • High product affinity, sound understanding of consumer needs and commercial market
  • Solid computer skills (MS Office) are required
  • Independent and structured work method
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams, Gerber or another CAD software
  • Content management capabilities
  • Fluent communication skills in English
  • Secondary language a plus
